- This Day is celebrated every year on November 11 to mark the birth anniversary of the first Minister of Education in India, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
- The theme of 2022 is ‘Changing Course, Transforming Education.’
- He was a scholar, educationist and freedom fighter who played an instrumental role in the development of the education system of independent India.
- He was posthumously awarded India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna in 1992.
- He was the visionary behind the establishment of the IITs, IISc and the School of Architecture and Planning.
- The first National Education Day celebration was inaugurated by then President Pratibha Patil on November 11, 2008.
