The birthday of former Indian Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh – December 23 is celebrated every year as National Farmers Day.
Former Prime Minister Charan Singh was born in an agricultural family in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh.
In July 1979, Charan Singh became the country's 5th Prime Minister. Charan Singh, who was in power for seven months till January 14, 1980 brought the Zamindari Abolition and Land Reform Act that ended the power of feudal land-lords.
Further, Charan Singh raised objections, condemnations and criticisms of money-lenders and abusive land owners.
The Agricultural Produce Market Bill was the famous bill introduced by Chaudhary Charan Singh in the parliament for sale of farmers produce in the market.
