National Milk Day commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien.
He is known as the ‘Father of White Revolution in India’. 
He is famous for his ‘Operation Flood’, which is known as the world’s largest agricultural program. 
He also played a key role in the establishment and success of Amul Brand. 
Operation Flood was launched on 13th January, 1970.
It was the world's largest dairy development programme.
India became the largest producer of milk in 1998, surpassing the U.S.
Now, India’s dairy industry is one of the largest self-sustaining sectors, contributing 4.5% to the GDP of India.
