The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal to fix the term of the Chairperson and Members of the Board of National Trust for three years.
In this regard, amendment will be made to Section 4(1) and Section 5(1) of the National Trust for the Welfare of Person with Autism, Cerebral Plasy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities Act, 1999
Section 4(1) of the National trust Act, provides that the char or a member of a board of National trust would continue in office for an indefinite period beyond the prescribed term of three years which is proposed now, until his successor shall have been duly appointed.
The proposed amendments in these provisions of the Act seek to avoid such a situation.
National Trust
It is a statutory body under Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
It is mandated to discharge two basic duties – legal and welfare with regard to empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PwD).
It fundamental purpose, is to create enabling environment, i.e. provide opportunities for Persons with Disabilities) through comprehensive support systems which will lead towards development of an inclusive society.
