  • Justice R K Agrawal, who retired as Supreme Court judge earlier, was appointed the president of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC).
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved Justice (retd.) Agrawal's appointment as the president of the commission
  • He will succeed Justice D K Jain, who completes his term on May 31.
  • The NCDRC is a quasi-judicial authority to decides on consumers' complaints.
  • It was established in 1988 and is headquartered in New Delhi.
  • The commission is headed by sitting or retired judge of Supreme Court of India.
  • Anybody aggrieved over goods and services, for values over Rs one crore, can approach the commission for grievance redressal.
