Justice R K Agrawal, who retired as Supreme Court judge earlier, was appointed the president of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC).
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved Justice (retd.) Agrawal's appointment as the president of the commission
He will succeed Justice D K Jain, who completes his term on May 31.
The NCDRC is a quasi-judicial authority to decides on consumers' complaints.
It was established in 1988 and is headquartered in New Delhi.
The commission is headed by sitting or retired judge of Supreme Court of India.
Anybody aggrieved over goods and services, for values over Rs one crore, can approach the commission for grievance redressal.
