The UGC introduced a new recommendation of college degrees awarded by higher education institutions.
It has recommended the introduction of Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees for all four-year undergraduate honours’ programs, regardless of the discipline.
They suggested that the universities can adopt the Master of Science (MS) nomenclature for postgraduate programs.
It is also applicable to even in non-science disciplines like arts, humanities, management, and commerce.
It has recommended to the introduction of the ‘Hons’ designation for four-year undergraduate honours programs.
The four-year undergraduate honours degree programme will include ‘Hons’ in brackets, such as BA (Hons), BCom (Hons), or BS (Hons).
Traditionally, Bachelor of Science (BSc) degrees have been associated with science subjects in India.
Also, to Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees have encompassed arts, humanities, and social sciences.
