- The UGC introduced a new recommendation of college degrees awarded by higher education institutions.
- It has recommended the introduction of Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees for all four-year undergraduate honours’ programs, regardless of the discipline.
- They suggested that the universities can adopt the Master of Science (MS) nomenclature for postgraduate programs.
- It is also applicable to even in non-science disciplines like arts, humanities, management, and commerce.
- It has recommended to the introduction of the ‘Hons’ designation for four-year undergraduate honours programs.
- The four-year undergraduate honours degree programme will include ‘Hons’ in brackets, such as BA (Hons), BCom (Hons), or BS (Hons).
- Traditionally, Bachelor of Science (BSc) degrees have been associated with science subjects in India.
- Also, to Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees have encompassed arts, humanities, and social sciences.
