He had then served as the Vice President of the United States under former President Barack Obama's administration for two terms from 2008 to 2016.
Kamala Harris was also sworn in as the first female, African and Asian-American Vice President of the United States.
In 2016, she became the first South Asian American and second African American woman to serve in the United States Senate.
