New species of Cat snakes

- A new species of snake called Thackeray’s Cat Snake (scientific name Boiga thackeray) has been found in Sahyadri tiger reserve in Koyna area of Maharashtra after 125 years.
- This species usually falls in the category of cat snake or cat-eyed snakes and belongs to the genus Boiga.
- These snakes belonging to this genus are found all over India, but some species are found only in the Western Ghats.
- It was named after researcher Tejas Thackeray, son of Uddhav Thackeray.
