A new species of snake called Thackeray’s Cat Snake (scientific name Boiga thackeray) has been found in Sahyadri tiger reserve in Koyna area of Maharashtra after 125 years.
This species usually falls in the category of cat snake or cat-eyed snakes and belongs to the genus Boiga.
These snakes belonging to this genus are found all over India, but some species are found only in the Western Ghats.
It was named after researcher Tejas Thackeray, son of Uddhav Thackeray.
