- The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has been released by the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
- It lists top universities and colleges in India.
- In 2021, the participated number of institutions in this ranking was 6000.
- It has been announced for eleven categories -- Overall, University, Management, College, Pharmacy, Medical, Engineering, Architecture, ARIIA (Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements), Law and Research Institutions.
- The ranking framework judges’ institutions under five broad generic groups of parameters of Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) and Perception (PR).
Key findings
- IIT Madras remains the best institute in the overall category in the country.
- The IIT Madras has topped the list for the sixth consecutive year in the Engineering Category.
- The IIT Madras has bagged the second position in the newly introduced ‘research’ category.
- The IIM Ahmedabad has topped in the Management Category.
- IISc Bangalore has topped in the university category
- IISc Bengaluru is also the top-ranking institute in newly introduced category research.
- University of Delhi's Miranda House has been ranked first in the college category.
- The Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi tops in the Pharmacy category.
- All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi tops in the medical category
- Christian Medical College, Vellore ranks third in medical.
Tamilnadu
- Tamil Nadu has a total of 19 institutions in the top 100.
- Last year, Anna University ranked 20 in the overall category but this year its rank has dropped to 25.
- Similarly, University of Madras ranked 47 this year but ranked 41 last year.
- Bharathiar University of Coimbatore ranked 22 this year but ranked 21 last year.
- But NIT-Trichy improved from 24 last year to 23 this year.
- Chennai’s Loyola College ranked third in this year from 6th in the last year.
