- Algeria, Guyana, Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone and Slovenia were elected to the UN Security Council as non-permanent members.
- They will replace Albania, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana and the United Arab Emirates from January 1 next year.
- The Security Council is composed of 15 countries including 10 non-permanent members and 5 permanent members.
- The 10 non-permanent members are elected by the General Assembly.
- Their Voting is conducted by secret ballot and candidates must receive a two-thirds majority, or 128 votes.
