North East’s first ‘water handloom hut’ - Manipur

- Tripura’s Forest and Tribal Welfare Minister Mewal Kumar Jamatia inaugurated the first ever “Water Handloom Hut” in the North East region at Loktak Lake in Imphal, Manipur.
- It is a part of the 5 water handloom huts built on phumdis (floating biomass) at Loktak Lake in Bishnupur district.
- The water handloom huts were built by the Department of Textiles, Commerce and Industries of the Manipur State.
- The huts will improve the socio-economic conditions of the weavers residing in the phumdis at Loktak Lake and build tourism.
