Oath - Draupadi Murmu

  • Draupadi Murmu was sworn in as India’s 15th President at the Central Hall of Parliament in Delhi.
  • She was sworn in by Chief Justice of India (CJI) N V Ramana.
  • She was given a 21-gun salute after which she signed the oath register.
  • The new commander-in-chief of the armed forces inspected a tri-services guard of honour in the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
  • She created history by being the first tribal President and the second woman to occupy the country’s highest constitutional post.
  • She is India’s youngest President at 64 and the first to be born after Independence.
  • She was born to a Santali family on June 20, 1958, in Rairangpur, Mayurbhanj district, Odisha.
  • Her name given by her family was Puti Tudu.
  • She was renamed by her school teacher to Draupadi.
  • Murmu was sworn in as the Governor of Jharkhand in 2015.
  • Thus, she became the first woman governor to that state.
  • She was the first female tribal leader from Odisha to be appointed as a Governor of the Indian State.
