- After 18 years, the Olkiluoto 3 reactor kicked off regular production recently.
- It has 1,600-megawatt capacity and was connected into the Finnish national power grid in March 2022.
- Construction of Olkiluoto 3 began in 2005 and was due to be completed four years later.
- The Olkiluoto 3 is Western Europe’s first new reactor in more than 15 years.
- It is the first new-generation EPR, or European Pressurized Reactor.
- It was developed in a joint venture between France’s Areva and Germany’s Siemens.
