- The Nobel Peace Prize awardee Muhammad Yunus of Bangladesh will become the second recipient of the Olympic Laurel at Tokyo Olympics.
- The Kenyan Olympian and social changemaker Kip Keino received this honour at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
- He is often referred to as the “world’s banker to the poor”.
- Yunus founded the Grameen Bank in the 1983 at Bangladesh
- He was a proponent of microfinance and won the Nobel in 2006.
