The Union Cabinet approved an ordinance that will pave the way for the creation of 'One India, One Agriculture Market'.
It is named as the Farming Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance, 2020 in order to ensure the barrier-free trade in agricultural produce.
This ordinance will promote barrier-free inter-state and intra state commerce and trade outside the physical premises of markets notified under State Acts for the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee.
It aims to set up an ecosystem where farmers and traders both have the freedom of choice of sale and purchase of agricultural produce.
It also proposes an electronic trading in transaction platform for ensuring a seamless trade electronically.
The farmers will not be charged any cess or levy for sale of their produce under this Act.
The Union cabinet also approved The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance, 2020.
This step will empower the farmers to engage with aggregators, processors, large retailers, wholesalers, and exporters on a level playing field without any fear of exploitation.
