  • The Union Cabinet approved an ordinance that will pave the way for the creation of 'One India, One Agriculture Market'.
  • It is named as the Farming Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance, 2020 in order to ensure the barrier-free trade in agricultural produce.
  • This ordinance will promote barrier-free inter-state and intra state commerce and trade outside the physical premises of markets notified under State Acts for the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee.
  • It aims to set up an ecosystem where farmers and traders both have the freedom of choice of sale and purchase of agricultural produce.
  • It also proposes an electronic trading in transaction platform for ensuring a seamless trade electronically.
  • The farmers will not be charged any cess or levy for sale of their produce under this Act.
  • The Union cabinet also approved The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance, 2020.
  • This step will empower the farmers to engage with aggregators, processors, large retailers, wholesalers, and exporters on a level playing field without any fear of exploitation.
