Pakistan’s top leadership has approved the launch of a new military operation aimed at quelling a surge in violence.
It is called Azm-e-Istehkam, meaning Resolve for Stability in Urdu.
It aims to address domestic security threats and the activities of armed fighters crossing over from Afghanistan.
Since 2001, Pakistan's military has conducted many operations like "Zarb-e-Azb", "Rah-e-Nijat", "Rah-e-Rast" against homegrown militants in border areas.
