  • Halley Bay site in Antarctica, the world’s second-largest penguin colony, has almost disappeared.
  • Researchers from the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) reported death of thousands of penguin chicks.
  • Most of the penguin chicks drowned when “sea ice” in Antarctica's Weddell Sea was destroyed by storms in 2016.
  • Climate change induced recurring storms in 2017 and 2018 nearly destroyed almost all chicks at this site.
