  • A 100-million-year-old Petrified wood has been found at Pudukkottai.
  • The wood dates back to the Cretaceous period, which is about 100 million years ago.
  • That is, it belongs to the genus Gymnosperm, which precedes the existing flowering plants, such as angiosperm.
  • It is considered a rare archaeological object.
  • A 1300-year-old Pallava period painting has been found on the Sanjeevi hills near the village of Pakkam near Gingee in Villupuram district.
