According to the first-ever study on global trend for adolescent insufficient activity, 85% of girls and 78% of boys were found to have extremely high levels of insufficient physical activity.
The report was released by World Health Organisation and published in published in the Lancet Child & Adolescent Health journal.
The study is based on data reported by 1.6 million 11 to 17-year-old students across 146 countries during 2001-16 period.
In India, 71.8% of boys and 76.3% of girls were classified as “physically inactive’’.
Cricket and domestic chores were blamed as the reason for boys and girls being physically inactive.
