- The under-construction multi-purpose Polavaram irrigation project construction works have been permitted for two more years by Environment ministry.
- It is being constructed on the Godavari River in the West Godavari District and East Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh.
- Its reservoir spreads into parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha States also.
- It was declared a National project in 2014.
- It is expected to irrigate nearly 3 lakh hectares, generate hydel power with installed capacity of 960 MW and provide drinking water to 25 lakh populations.
