The Indian government has allowed the import and manufacture of national flags which are machine-made of polyester.
The 2002 Flag Code of India has been amended for this purpose.
Earlier rules permitted only those flags which were made by only “hand-spun and weaved wool, cotton, or silk khadi bunting.
While machine-made flag imports were banned in 2019.
“The National Flag shall be made of hand-spun and hand-woven or machine-made, cotton, polyester, wool, silk khadi bunting” is what the latest revision acknowledged.
