- This election to the 18-member committee of experts was done by the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

- CESCR was set up in 1985 by the ECOSOC.
- CESCR monitors the implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
- The CECSR meets in Geneva for four weeks every year.
