Conservative candidate Ivan Duque has won Colombia's presidential runoff election by defeating Leftist candidate and former mayor of Bogota Gustavo Petro, obtaining 54 percent of the vote.
Duque's running mate became the first woman ever elected to the nation's vice presidency.
The elections were the first to be held since a 2016 peace deal with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
Duque is a social conservative who opposes gay marriage, euthanasia and the decriminalization of drugs. He will become Colombia's youngest president.
