- President Ram Nath Kovind awarded Presidential Coloursto the submarine arm of the Indian Navy that is celebrating its golden jubilee in Visakhapatanam.
- It was a historic day to Navy sources, as the awarding of President's Colour is the highest honour to be bestowed upon any military unit.
- The commissioning of the first Submarine, INS Kalvari on December 8, 1967, laid the foundation of the submarine arm.
- The Golden Jubilee year, 2017, is being celebrated as the “Year of the Submarine” by the Indian Navy.
