- The anniversary of the Declaration of Windhoek is celebrated as World Press Freedom Day.
- This day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in December 1993, following the recommendation of UNESCO's General Conference.
- The theme for 2024 is “A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of the Environmental Crisis.”
