- Rajiv Mehrishi took over as the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.
- It is a constitutional body.
- As a constitutional functionary, the CAG is primarily entrusted with the responsibility of auditing the accounts of the Union government and of the State governments.
- CAG is appointed and his oath was administered by the President. However, his removal is similar to the procedure of removal of Supreme Court judge.
- His tenure is six years or up to 65 age (whichever is earlier)
- Article 148 ensures the independence of CAG.
- CAG is called as guardian of Indian purse.
