- Scientists at the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad discovered light rare earth elements (REE) in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.
- These elements are key components in many electronic devices and whose industrial applications span sectors like imaging, aerospace, and defence.
- Rare earths are 15 elements referred in the lanthanide and Actinide series of the periodic table of elements, together with scandium and yttrium.
