- The birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) on 31st October every year.
- Observance of the day provides an opportunity to re-affirm inherent strength and resilience of our nation to withstand actual and potential threats to unity, integrity and security of our country.
- Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is mainly responsible for the integration of 565 princely states into independent India.
- He was awarded ‘Bharat Ratna’ posthumously in 1991.
