- RBI commenced a pilot launch of the digital rupee, Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) from November 1.
- It has identified nine banks for participation in the pilot launch.
- CBDC as legal tender issued by a central bank in a digital form.
- It is the same as a fiat currency and is exchangeable one-to-one with the fiat currency.
- In simple terms, the CBDC is basically the digital version (in an electronic form) of fiat currencies.
