- The World Health Organization released a 4th annual status report ‘Countdown to 2023 WHO Report on global trans-fat elimination 2022’.
- It stated that 5 billion people globally remain unprotected from harmful trans-fatty acids (TFA) resulting in increasing their risk of heart disease and death.
- WHO first called for the global elimination of industrially produced trans fats in 2018.
- It also set an elimination target year as 2023.
- 43 countries have implemented best-practice policies for tackling trans-fat in food.
