  • A study on “Global Estimates of Modern Slavery” was conducted by a Walk Free Foundation (WFF), An Australia based Human Rights Group.
  • The report was published on behalf of the global body- International Labour Organisation (ILO).
  • It reveals that globally there are 40.3 million people are victims of modern slavery in 2016.
  • Global Slavery Index is computed by WFF every year.
    • In 2016 Index, India has been ranked 4th out of 167 countries.
    • In 2016, it was deemed to have some 18.3 million people trapped in slavery in India.
