The World Health Organization released a 4th annual status report ‘Countdown to 2023 WHO Report on global trans-fat elimination 2022’.
It stated that 5 billion people globally remain unprotected from harmful trans-fatty acids (TFA) resulting in increasing their risk of heart disease and death.
WHO first called for the global elimination of industrially produced trans fats in 2018.
It also set an elimination target year as 2023.
43 countries have implemented best-practice policies for tackling trans-fat in food.
