The Prime Minister led Union Cabinet has been expanded.
Four cabinet ministers and nine ministers of state were sworn in by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

- Nirmala Sitharaman is the first “full time” woman Defence Minister and the second woman next to Indra Gandhi to hold the prestigious post.
- Nirmala Sitharaman becomes the second woman after external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj to be a part of the cabinet committee on security (CCS) in PM Narendra Modi’s government. She has also become part of Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) chaired by Prime Minister, which also includes External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, Finance minister Arun Jaitley and Home minister Rajnath Singh
