- The six-member commission, headed by Jayant Kumar Banthia, was set up by the Maharashtra government.
- The panel submitted its report to the Supreme Court recently.
- This report has paved way for candidates who belong to Other Backward Classes in Local Bodies’ Elections in Maharashtra.
- This Commission has recommended to provide 27% reservation in local bodies
- However, this reservation should not affect the statutory reservation for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.
- It is also, subject to reservation limit of 50%.
