Revision of Stamp duty

  • Tamil Nadu has revised the rate of stamp duty after 22 years.
  • The amendment Bill named "Indian Stamp (Tamil Nadu Amendment) Act 2023.
  • Stamp duty for documents is chargeable at the rate indicated in Schedule - I of the Indian Stamp Act, 1899.
  • The cost of printing physical non-judicial stamp papers has increased manifold times since 2001.
  • Payment of stamp duty below Rs 100 denomination would continue to be made available through e-stamping.
