- The government has appraised fund for safe city project in eight cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Lucknow) under the Nirbhaya Fund.
- The objective is to make the cities safer for women by addressing different aspects such as street lighting, safer public transport, improved policing and others.
- This project consists of transit dormitories for women and children, smart LED streetlights, one-stop crisis centers, public panic buttons, and forensic and cybercrime cells.
