- A comprehensive coastal security exercise, ‘Sagar Kavach’, to assess the preparedness of the police and other security agencies in the event of a terror attack began.
- The objective is to provide seamless sea-ward cover along the coast jointly by all security agencies from the coastal belt area line to the limit of territorial waters at 12 nautical miles.
- It is a joint exercise conducted in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
- The exercise is conducted half yearly with an objective to check coastal security mechanism and validate standard operating procedures.
- The two-day exercise was conducted by the State police, Indian Coast Guard and Navy.
