- INS Sagardhwani has embarked on a two-month long SAGAR MAITRI Mission-2 from the Southern Naval Command in Kochi.
- It has been designed and developed by DRDO’S Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), Kochi.
- The prime objectives of the Sagar Maitri Mission are
- Data collection from the entire North Indian Ocean
- Focussing on the Andaman Sea and adjoining seas
- Establishing long-term collaboration with eight Indian Ocean Rim (IOR) countries in the field of ocean research and development.
- It commemorates the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of India’s lone ‘research ship’ INS Kistna which conducted International Indian Ocean Expeditions during 1962-65.
