INS Sagardhwani has embarked on a two-month long SAGAR MAITRI Mission-2 from the Southern Naval Command in Kochi.
It has been designed and developed by DRDO’S Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), Kochi.
The prime objectives of the Sagar Maitri Mission are
Data collection from the entire North Indian Ocean
Focussing on the Andaman Sea and adjoining seas
Establishing long-term collaboration with eight Indian Ocean Rim (IOR) countries in the field of ocean research and development.
It commemorates the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of India’s lone ‘research ship’ INS Kistna which conducted International Indian Ocean Expeditions during 1962-65.
