Sahitya Akademi, India's national academy of letters, has announced its annual awards recognising the literary works of 24 writers writing in 24 Indian languages.
The Tamil Poet Inquilab has been selected posthumously for the Sahitya Akademi award for 2017
The award has been given for “Gaandhaal Naatkal”, a compilation of Inquilab’s poems.
Shahul Hameed , familiarly known by his pen name Inquilab was born in Kilakarai, Tamilnadu. Few of his notable works include Vellai Iruttu, Sooriyanai Sumappavargal, Ovvouru pullaiyum peryar solli azaippen.
Sahitya Academy Prize for Translation in Tamil language
Yuma Vasuki from Tamilnadu has been conferred with Sahitya Akademi Prize for Translation in Tamil language category for his work ‘Kacaakkin Itikaacam’ (‘கசாக்கின் இதிகாசம்’). The novel was originally written in Malayalam by renowned writer O.V. Vijayan , titled ‘Khasakkinte Ithihasam’.
Yuma Vasuki was born in Pudukkottai. His birth name is Maarimuthu. Some of his poetic works include Amudhaparuvam valampuriyaai anaithoru sangu (அமுதபருவம் வலம்புரியாய் அணைந்ததொரு சங்கு), Iravugalin nilarpadam (இரவுகளின் நிழற்படம்). He has written two novels namely Ratha Uravu (ரத்த உறவு), and Manjal Veyil (மஞ்சள் வெயில்). He has also written a short story titled Uyirthiruthal (உயிர்த்திருத்தல்).
