October 25 , 2020 1368 days 866 0
  • NASA’s robotic spacecraft Osiris-Rex briefly touched down on the rocky surface of asteroid Bennu.
  • It collects rock and dust samples almost 330 million kilometres from the Earth.
  • A precision technique called the ‘touch-and-go’ or TAG manoeuvre was used for the historic mission.
  • Any collected samples won’t reach Earth until 2023.
  • Bennu is the smallest celestial body a spacecraft has ever orbited.
