- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has for the first-ever time opened applications for women to enlist in the military.
- Women can apply for positions with the rank of soldier in the provinces of Riyadh, Mecca, al-Qassim and Medina.
- Women applicants must be Saudi citizens, between 25 to 35 years of age, have a high-school diploma, and must pass a mandatory medical check-up.
- The military roles do not involve combat. Instead, women will reportedly be given the opportunity to work in the security department.
- The initiative has been reportedly undertaken as part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 programme, launched by Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammad bin Salman.
