- Recently, the Allahabad High Court quashed the Uttar Pradesh government’s order to notify 17 OBCs as scheduled caste.
- It said that as per the provisions of Article 341 of the Constitution, any Caste or Group cannot be added to the list of Scheduled Caste in a State, except by law made by Parliament.
- Article 341 says that any change to the list of Scheduled Castes specified in the President’s order can only be made by Parliament by law.
