- Indian and Australian scientists in a collaborative effort have identified a new gene directly linked to schizophrenia.
- Researchers from the University of Queensland and the Schizophrenia Research Foundation led by R. Thara in Chennai analyzed the genomes of more than 3000 Chennai residents.
- They identified a gene called NAPRT1 which is directly linked to Schizophrenia.
- Schizophrenia is a chronic and severe mental disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves.
