  • Last year, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) sent seeds into space.
  • It aims to develop resilient crops that can help provide sufficient food as the planet heats up.
  • This is the first feasibility study by these organisations to determine the effect of cosmic radiation, microgravity and extreme temperatures on plant genomes and biology.
  • The Seeds of arabidopsis and sorghum were sent to space and having spent around 5 months at the International Space Station.
