Shri Dineshwar Sharma as representative of J&K talks

  • The Union Government has appointed former Intelligence Bureau (IB) Chief Dineshwar Sharma as its Representative to initiate and carry forward sustained dialogue on Jammu and Kashmir with all stakeholders including separatists.
  • He will hold the position of a Cabinet Secretary and on talks with separatists, the interlocutor will be free to decide on whom to talk.
  • The sustained political dialogue will help in Confidence-Building Measures (CBM) between government, civil society and dissidents in Kashmir.
  • Sharma has worked as the interlocutor for peace talks with Assam's insurgent groups, including the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and worked as director of IB include from 2014 to 2016.
