- The Swedish think-tank SIPRI launched this recently.
- According to the yearbook, India and China have increased their nuclear arsenal as compared to 2019.
- The think tank says that China is developing the nuclear triad for the first time.
- India is also developing naval component of its nuclear triad.
- According to SIPRI, the nine major nuclear armed states of the world include US, UK, Russia, France, India, Pakistan, China, North Korea and Israel.
- US and Russia alone possess 90% of world nuclear weapons.
- There are 13,400 nuclear weapons at the start of 2020.
- There were 13,865 nuclear weapons at the beginning of 2019.
- The U.S. and Russia have reduced their nuclear arsenals under the 2010 New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START).
- India’s nuclear arsenal went up from 130-140 in 2019 to 150 in 2020.
- China’s nuclear arsenal had gone up from 290 warheads in 2019 to 320 in 2020.
- Pakistan's nuclear arsenal has reached 160 in 2020.
