- The India Meteorological Department has declared that Southwest monsoon had withdrawn from parts of Punjab, Haryana and north Rajasthan.
- It has withdrawn nearly 40 days later than the normal date (October 9).
- The most delayed monsoon withdrawal recorded before 2019 was in 1961, when the monsoon began its retreat on October 1.
- The withdrawal was announced after the two essential conditions for monsoon's retreat were observed by the IMD
- Persistent anti-cyclonic circulation
- Gradual reduction in moisture
- The reversal of wind direction is likely to reduce humidity and lead to a drop temperature in north India.
