- Tamil Nadu government unveiled a poverty alleviation scheme to dole out Rs 2,000 towards every family categorised Below Poverty Line.
- This scheme give assistance especially farm workers, the urban poor, labourers in the sectors of fireworks, fishing, power and handlooms, construction and other industries.
- The scheme is expected to reach out to 35 lakh families in the villages and 25 lakh urban poor families thus total to 60 lakh families.
- The Government allocates 1200 crores for this purpose.
- Chief Minister K Palaniswami made the announcement under Rule 110 at the assembly.
